Book Title

Mystery of the Missing Cake By: Claudia Boldt

Introduce the Book

This is a children's mystery picture book for children between the ages of 4-8.

Summary

This book is about a fox named Harold getting invited to his friend Donkey's birthday costume party. At first Harold doesn't want to go, but after talking to his Dad he decides it'll be fun. All the guests are eyeballing the Donkey's cake throughout the party. Donkey tells them to stay away from his cake. Then they proceed to play party games. They play Donkeys favorite game, monster tag in the dark. When the lights come on Donkey and Harold realize his cake went missing. Harold questions all the party guest who claim they had nothing to do with it. Donkey said it had to have been one of the party guests because everyone likes cake. Harold insists it wasn't him as he only likes cheese. Donkey said everyone except you likes cake then. Hearing that made Harold come to the realization that everyone likes cake. He solved the mystery and realized everyone ate the cake. All the guests had a little piece which resulted in the whole cake being eaten.

Share Your Favorite Part

As an educator, I think the best part of the book was when Harold solved the mystery. He realized the answer to the problem was in the question. Everyone likes cake, hence everyone ate the cake. It was also interesting to watch him come to that realization.

Give a Recommendation

I would recommend this book. It is great to read to students especially if you are doing a mystery or problem-solving topic. I also think it is a great book for children who are starting to get at a more proficient level of reading independently. Overall, I think this book is cute, while having good vocabulary, and a fun storyline. I would definitely recommend this book.
