Book Title and Author: The Collected Poems of Langston Hughes, By Langston Hughes Introduce the book: This is a poetry collection of the late Langston Hughes intended for adolescent and adult readers.

Summary: Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist from Joplin, Missouri. He moved to New York City as a young man, where he became famous for his poetry.

Favorite Part: My favorite poem from the collection is “The Negro speaks of Rivers”. This poem uses great rivers as symbols to reflect the African American experience in history.

Recommendation: This is a great collection of poems. If you’re interested in studying African American history or the Harlem Renaissance than this is a must read.
