== Definition ==
Reciprocal Teaching is a reading comprhension technique that focuses on four over arching critical thinking strategies: summarize, clarify, question, and visualize.

Small groups of students work with a teacher who at first is responsible for modeling the strategy and then handing off the tool to a student who performs that role in a group. 

== History ==
First published in 1984 (Palinscar & Brown) was one of the first studies in comprehension startegy instruction that combined the work in metacognition (Flavell, 1978) and English translations of Vygostsky (1978).

Reciprocal Teaching drew heavily on information processing and socio-cogntitive theories of learning.
